Tulips

Hi
Im just wondering whether I should be worried about all this large amount of rain and my tulips. I read they dont like to be soaked. They are peaking through the ground now, but im worried they will just get to the point that they will croak it. Is anyone having these same troubles.

Lets say that the ground is soaked and i have no trouble what so ever to push a stake (without a hammer mind you) to about 30cm int the ground.

I fixed the bed up before planting, so that it has new soil and about 25kgs of Manure built into it ( I wanted the best chance for them to muliply)

Hi Patrick, yes rain has been in such short supply that I haven't had any experience of my tulips being soaked to death! All I can say is mine are also coming up - and they have definitely multiplied in the past couple of years. They didn't even produce foliage at all last Spring so I was convinced they were dead but so far the foliage is looking really healthy. Will let you know if flowers start appearing..

Thanks for that
Although I just think they might be lagging a bit
Its not exactly warm but spring is on its way. and the daffodils and the jonquils are already out.
The same time last year I remember the tulips being much bigger than they are now.

Thanks

RE: Tulips

Patrick, you were right worrying about the tulips, but since the rain here pretty much dried up shortly after your post and Spring seems to be early, mine have been a distinct non-event, given such a promising start with the foliage. I have had 3 flowers where I would normally have a dozen or more. How did your's fare?
