It is a plant that is used around Sydney Olympic Park as mass planting. It is a thin leafed, reedy, clumping type of plant that has a soft long type of flower (similar in shape to a bottlebrush) at the end of some leaves when in flower. It is in flower now. The flowers are a tan type of colour.
I would like to plant some at the side of my house along the path once I find out the name and how big it grows etc. It looks really soft and looks easy to maintain.
Bye the way, its not Lomandra or Agapanthus. |

| It could be the grass Pennisetum alopecuroides. There has been debate as to whether it is a true Australian native. |

Thanks TonyfromOz, it looks like that is the plant. Further investigation has found that it is declared a weed in some areas. I wonder why it was planted so profusely around Sydney Olympic Park then? |
