My rose of jericho is going mouldy (white fluffy mould) - how can I cure it?

WHITE FLUFFY MOULD MAY BE MEALY BUGS. IF SO, A COTTON TIP DIPPED IN METHYLATED SPRITS APPLIED TO EACH WILL KILL THEM. CHECK THE ROOTS TOO. AN OIL SPRAY CAN THEN BE APPLIED.

My aunty has a rose of jericho that was sent from Germany, she only brings it out a christmas, it hibernates in the cupboard all year then she puts some water under it - the plant is only a bit bigger than your hand like a flat conifer. After a few days of being put with its roots in the water it turns green again. Last christmas it was a duller green. Is this the same plant??
