I would like info on growing japanese irises; I.laevigata and I.kaempferi tried to find details in garden web but I don't know where to find climatic conditions etc it says 200 but I don't know what it stands for. Dutch irises won't grow here, I have Louisiana does well, and others which I don't know the name of. Thanks to all who have replied to previous questions.

Gee where is the diva of iris' Jan (aka Sparaxis). Claudine, I am no expert as is Jan, but I live in Sydney (zone 10ish) and can grow some iris - the best being Louisiana which loves the sub-tropics and some bearded (even though they like temperate to cold) - the Dutch irises are treated like an annual in my garden. I have read that the Japanese iris likes temperate to cold climates -is that you? You may find details of the I.kaempferi under the name of Iris ensata?
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Cheers sooze

Hi Sooze,
temperate to cold climates -is that you?
>>> hardly, I live in FNQ I have been given a japanese iris, don't know which sort and made a bog garden on the edge of my pond, so I'll just wait and see. The Louisianas are thriving were the washing machine water goes.
