Frangipani underplanting suggestions please
| | |

| I would welcome suggestions for perennials to plant under a frangipani (plumeria not native). The tree was there before the cottage garden was planted around it. I would prefer perennials to annuals.
Perhaps a groundcover or something low growing that will stand the summer shade/winter sun. It could possibly be underplanted with bulbs (maybe jonquils) for perfume in winter/spring.
Any ideas?

| Frangipannis will suck any moisture or goodness from the soil, so it makes it difficult to find something that will survive. I tried all kinds of plants under out huge frangipanni (when we lived in the tropics) and none of them did any good until I tried agapanthus and those variegated spider plants. They thrived, the agapanthus flowered and the spider plants added some brightness to the deep shadow. Robyn |

| Thanks, Robyn. I might use some of the miniature white agapanthus. Hazel. |
