| I have collected lots of Alstroemeria seeds but cannot get any of them to germinate. I also tried to order seed from MF but they cannot supply as they have experienced low germinatin rates.
Anyone have more sucess? Thanks! |

| I tried some of the commercially sold "Ligtu Hybrids" without any great success. I was sent some seed by a couple of G-Webbers and certainly did better with that. I don't know whether freshness adds anything tp siccess rates/ If you "google" as I did, you'll find plenty of articles about the seed being very variable in germination - rates and times. Some people do suggest fridging the seed for a few weeks in moist compost then putting it out again, and being very very patient. That said, I've had the weedy form - A pulchella, in my gardens for years and it would take over the world if it could. |

| Thanks for the feedback. Have you tried seed collection and germination of the pulchella seed? |
|
| sorry for delay - I don't look in on these forums much. No I haven't tried germinating A pulchella - it seems to pop seed all over the place and germinate pretty readilly - it also spreads by the rhizomes or whatever. Incidentally you may find some sold that way in amongst the racks of bulbs & such at supermarkets and may have more luck with those. |

| You can get the rhizomes at http://www.buy-alstroemeria.com a site called Flowers and Greens near Davis, Calif. this guy, Roy, propogates Alstroemeria himself and he knows what he is doing. He sells them in clumps of rhizomes. Beautiful colors too. |
