hi all phew what a day in the garden lots of work but enjoyable ,have pulled up a lot of annuals and now have to decide whether to pull up the petunias or not they still look ok (just) any one got any suggestions ,though s"pose i should yank em out to get soil ready for next lot of planting, cant wait till spring to build up some seeds so i can offer to everyone, as thanks to all, the garden is coming along nicely ,if i can just decide what to do with these petunias have to be careful what i plant as still got stage one water restrictions here ,wish it would rain then i think the garden would just about chuck a party
happy gardening

| I am at that exact same stage with my petunias. They are still flowering like crazy, but are starting to look just a little ratty. What are you planning to replace the petunias with? I looked at pansys, but I've never really liked them - as Edna Walling once remarked, "they have cheeky faces"... There must be other things that will flower well into winter. |

hi robyn ,well i did think of pansies then thought of stocks or cinararias (we are tucked in side of hill so only very light frost) but havent made up my mind as yet have also got roses in the same bed and we get lots of wind ,though believe it or not had some poppies there last year and they survived beautifully somehow wind and all, when i decide will let you know ok regards lorraine ps, are you n,s,e, or w. in vic, we are in gippsland |

| We are in sw vic near Ballarat. We are also on a hill and get every 'breeze' that howls our way. Cinararias sound good - might give them a try. I didn't think Gippsland got as windy as it gets here. Is there such a thing as a nice, green, non-windy, cool place in Victoria? We are growing wind-breaks and hedges and more wind-breaks and more hedges ;-) I guess we'll get there eventually! Robyn |

hi robyn ,well we have been here two years and when we get some rain it will be nice and green ,and yep we face east and cop howling gales straight up the valley,so its nice and cool ,(freezing in winter )but love it here its heaven on earth ,can be near 40 outside but house always stays at about 23 and nice breeze in summer , yes we have been putting low wind breaks in on some sides mainly small grevilleas, but the garden is pretty hardy even the rhody"s and camellias are thriving , good luck with your garden lorraine |
