RE: Annuals, Perennials...What's the difference?

Hi Aussiegirl;- Annuals are plants that only last one season, you buy a punnet of seedlings, say lobelia, pansy, marigolds, petunia, you plant them in the Spring they flower over the Summer, then in the Autumn they are scrappy or die off so you pull them out, and that is the end of them, so you buy more punnets next Spring. ( but if you cut back your petunias after the first flower they will flower again ).

Perennials are plants that last longer than one Season, all bulbs like agapanthus, lilies, Iris, Daffodil to name a few. Tubers of Dahlia, rizones of Canna Lilies.

Then there are the shrub type one, Michaelmas Daisy, Campanula, Chrysanthemum, Gazania, Gerbera, Pelargonium, Geranium lots of those too.

Some die down over winter and shoot again in the Spring, others you have to prune after flowering and then they grow new shoots. Hope this helps a bit. It wont take you long to learn and you will be able to get plenty of help on this Forum. Cheers...... MM.
