Has anyone heard of a creeper called Neighbour Be Gone? Does anyone know its botanical name? Sounds invasive.

The spell, goes fairly well, but only works if one spins around three times, shuts the eyes tightly while holding a small cairn terrier, whispers "there's no place like home" repeatedly while clicking the heels of ruby slippers together... and forks over a large amount of cash to an agent....We snapped up a huge block in an older suburb, fortunately before sydney prices became *absolutely* ridiculous...oh how joyous...the neighbours just vanished. A recluse on one side, also in a big yard, and a religious sect that believes you should associate with outsiders on the other...WONDERFUL!! So stressful living cheek by jowl, as we used to. Like living at the park!

Sounds ideal Snodge. Since we've been here all our neighbours have changed, so has our outlook, and 'normal' sized blocks in the neighbourhood are being divided - I really hate that - should be a law against it! Humble little homes are being demolished to make way for huge, pillared monstrosities with no gardens ... sob ...

Sorry it's not a spell. I have discovered it's only the common Lilli Pilli. What a disappointment.

Sorry my post should have read that the religious sect believes you should NOT associate with outsiders! If Brissy is anything like sydney, there's laws forcing councils to approve dual occupancy/ subdivision...they tag it as "urban consolidation"....I hate it too. I often wonder how Hornsby council gets away with having a policy that insists on keeping house to land at certain rather low percentage.

Yes, Snodge, they do approve it! Pack 'em in!

Parts of Adelaide are becoming just as crowded. No decent gardens anywhere to be seen, and everywhere a house being knocked down to make room for several high, wide ones.

Should we be concerned about the lack of green stuff? Don't we need trees and such to produce oxygen?

Much as urban consolidation is somewhat unpleasant, I guess in a few hundred or thousand years someone will likely appreciate it. I've often thought (and the theory might not withstand serious scrutiny) that if the English didn't run such an inequitable class system for so long, with laws about who was allowed to fish or hunt, and the lower classes packed into certain areas etc, they wouldn't have the open green space and such that they do today..so I guess for the environment's sake, and I suppose the economy (goodness knows we have enough trouble maintaining reasonable essential services as it is), not to mention the hordes of people moving into our major cities, packing us in close together has it's merits....but just the same, I am very glad that we are lucky enough to have this block.

MPPI, I belive the plant you are talking about is Acmena smithiiand have attached the link for nursery that sells them. They look like a great and easy hedging plant.

Here is a link that might be useful: Info about neighbour-be-gone

Thanks ladyaustins for the link. I wasn't actually going to plant Neighbours Be Gone but my very new neighbour told me he had planted it! I thought well Hallooo who's been here five minutes when I've been here since before the flood? His plant died fortunately or unfortunately so I'll offer him some cuttings from my various creepers for his fence.
Thanks anyway that's an interesting site.
