 o
what do you feed your gingers/heliconias?

Like the heading says what do you use to feed your gingers and heliconia's? And when do you do it?
I have only given blood and bone to mine so far and i'm considering dynamic life and potash but would prefer to use a tried and true method.

thanks in advance

You can use whatever you like, Heliconias are gross feeders. I feed mine year round using the milder organic fertilisers in the cooler months and the stronger chemical fertilisers in the warmer months.

As Andrew has suggested, they seem to like food and plenty of it. I give mine Organic Extra, but I'm not completely sure that it has enough nitrogen. Cant beat homegrown compost with plenty of animal manure IMO, and that applies to most plants.

Thanks folks, I have given them a couple of hands of organic life, and a bit of potash. But now I have had to repot them AGAIN!
This is my first season bringing them up from dormant, so i'm getting a lot of surprises.
