'Sprouting' dormant Rhizomes early

A few months ago I sent My grandfather a dormant tumeric rhizome. As he is an impatient person (and lives out of the tropics), he decided to attempt to give it a push by placing it in his bean sprouter and see what happens. It actually produced shoots and is now doing quite well planted out. He was trying his ginger (edible) next.

Sounds like a bean sprouter could be quite a useful thing to have around when propagating. I guess it would work for most seeds as well.
