i noted I Wintles plant bore profusely. this year after seriously threatening my 10 year old plant (which has never borne) with the chop, it produced 3 flower clusters on 1 branch. 3 fruit developed and were 1/2 chewed by something! i've studied the lit. but must be missing something. how long should they take to bear? it is shaded during the winter--curtesy of the neighbours tall- story trees to my north. any hints to improve its fruiting please-florial

Hi floria, and Welcome ....just an idea but it seems they bear poorly compared to those planted in groups. I think I read somewhere that they dont fruit till they are 6-10 years old, so maybe this is the year. Have a look at the link below its from the USA but had some info hopes this helps. MM.

We have found that deep watering helps fruiting immensly. remember they are called 'Amazon Tree Grape' so the come from a hot Tropical climate. Ours have borne fruit since 5-6 years and sometimes 3 times a year. One tree this year has 30 kilo of fruit on it which was made into Jam. I dont know what is eating yours as ours seems fre of pests. Try deep watering. Ian

4 on my mother's place. I think they were all seedlings, I can't be sure. One bears heavily and promptly after every significant rain/ deep watering event. Its companion 2 m away bears fairly well. Neither gets all day full sun, I'd guess 4-6 hours, the balance dappled shade. Both get cow manure now and again, no artificial fertilisers. 10 years should be enough time, i'd be looking at another cause :) Rose
