A Mexican Makeover for Woody Point Garden
The owners of this Woody Point garden have lived on the same block for 25 years.
It used to be called 41B an abbreviation of 41 Bramble Street, however as soon as they sought the assistance of Landscape Architect Phillip OMalley, an amazing transformation began. Appropriately, the garden is now known as Frangipani Village.
One of the exciting aspects of the makeover, apart from the creation of an evocative Mexican Village theme, is that existing structures have taken on new roles; the swimming pool has been converted to underground water storage [holding 150,000 litres], the garage has become a daybed area, the boatshed a studio, the billiard room a summer pavilion and the birdcage a grotto.
The cavity brick buildings underwent structural and cosmetic changes including: lattice removal, rendering, lime washing, addition of handmade tiles, stainless steel, copper and old doors. The landscape became handcrafted with similar emphasis placed on both the hard structures and the landscaping.
Some mature palms were retained and large fragrant frangipanis positioned. Lots of easy care plants were also added including cordylines, crotons, mondos, bougainvillea, bird of paradise, Song of India, false cardamom, spider lilies & clivea. Bottle palms, sasanquas & lillipillies give structure.
The garden opens from 12 midday through until 8pm giving visitors the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere permeating from this delightful garden. At dusk, when the lighting is activated, Frangipani village takes on an evocative mood.
There will be refreshments available, entertainers and music just to complete the Mexican Village Square theme.
