Jade Vine

I would love to have the Jade Vine but am not sure if I have sufficient room for it.
I've heard that it is fairly vigorous but can be controlled by pruning.
That's what someone told me about wisteria! Well, that was an endeavour doomed from the start.
I would like to hear some personal experiences of this beautiful vine.
Thanks,
Annie

RE: Jade Vine

There are plenty of Jade vines around Cairns that are quite small plants, limited in size and growing (and flowering) over pergola-type structures. I have one in my yard that I simply planted beside a tall tree. After two years it fas reached the top of the tree and (drum roll) it has just put out its first flower spikes.

lucky you!
I got hold of Paradise Distributors and they have them.
I really don't have the room to just let it go.
I'm assuming it would need lots of filtered light.
Would it be possible to keep it controlled with pruning?

RE: Jade Vine

Hello Annie,
I am not an expert, I just planted mine and let it go, but judging by what I see around town I don't think they are harmed by pruning. And I don't think filtered light is an issue as there are plenty growing in full sun. Having said that you should realise the "full sun" in Cairns is not like full sun in many other parts of Queensland due to our omnipresent cloud cover. Maybe filtered light to get it started. The flower spikes grow from the trunk and larger mature stems, so pruning should not impact too severely on flowering.
