What to plant

I have recently put a pool into my garden. I have a small stretch of land, approximately 1metre wide by 4 metre long. It is between our BBQ and the new pool fence, It is in complete shade. It looks basically like a rectangle that butts up against the fence at the end and the BBQ and fence opposite each other and a metre apart. I was thinking of planting some shade plants of a fern type appearance. Is there anyone who could make any suggestions as grass grown in this space would be diffiicult to maintain.

Hi Sue and Welcome, Tree ferns are good
You may get some ideas from the link below hope it helps.
And dont forget the Bromeliad's also Coleus and Cordyline for a splash of foliage colour,
What about a about a small clumping bamboo in the ground or a pot... Cheers...MM.

Many of the native Blechnum Ferns are attractive. There are several types from small to tree ferns and have attractive red new growth.

If you wanted some colour you could put in some impatiens or cliveas which have long green leaves and orange flowers (also other colours).
