Hi everyone I finally got a few pics of my neighbours greenery now I dont know if it is a bamboo, it could be some kind of look a like grass so hoping one of you can find a name for it.

Richard we went for a drive to Mt Tamborine last week and stopped in at Bamboo Down Under, I just adore that Giant Buddha Belly first time I have seen it close up, hubby also liked it which was very strange. While there I seen this very fine bamboo ( kind of similar to the pic below ) cannot remember the name I think the letters blue were in it somewhere, can you help me out there please hubby said he thinks it came from Malay I cannot see any name like that in the Catalogue. Cheers...MM.

Hi Misty,
I believe the bamboo in your picture is Himalayan weeping bamboo(Drepanostachyum falcatum),the similar bamboo you would have likely seen at the nursery would be "Nepalese Blue"(Himalayacalamus porcatus),H.porcatus is a new release bamboo in Australia and is an extremely quick grower,i personally prefer it to Himalayan weeping,as i find that plant is very quick to curl its toes up if conditions arent quite right, even the specimen at Mt Cootha gardens looks a bit sad.
Hope this helps.

Thats great Richard, Thanks heaps for all the help I will write the name down for my neighbour and give it to her also keep it for myself. I may get myself some of that Nepalese Blue if those black pieces I got from Melbourne turn up their toes. So far two pices of the black have leaves on them, but sadly quite a few dont but seeing they are freebies I can't moan can I. And yes it has helped a lot...Cheers...MM.

Glad to help Misty,
I should point out, however, both Nepalese Blue and Himalayan weeping should be ideally grown in filtered sun/shade to look their best.Nepalese blue will produce stunning blue culms as it matures.
All the best.

O that is a shame Richard, as I wanted to grow it in a big pot and put it at the bottom of my back stairs where it would be in the Sun all day, in the Summer it would get shade around 3pm from two big gum trees.

Any other ideas for a small leafed type like above that would grow in a pot siting on pavers all day sun with plenty of air around it the house it up on 90-120cm stumps, Thanks...MM.

Misty,
probably the best choice for this would be a multiplex variety,i usually try to avoid them as they are very prone to sooty mould, however "Golden Goddess" would be the pick of them.Others in this group include "Alphonse Karr" and "Silver stripe".
They will cop full sun happily though.
