Transplanting a Bird of Paradise

Posted by eric55 5 (My Page) on

I have a Strelitzia reginae in a 12" pot that is currently blooming. The plant has recently divided into two separate plants.

I'd like to take them out and re-pot them in separate containers. When is the best time to do this? Right after the bloom is finished?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Eric

RE: Transplanting a Bird of Paradise

If your plant divided into two plants just recently, that means the new shoot is still young, so it would be better to wait for at least a year before you separate them. Also, expect the plants to stop producing blooms for some time after you separate them.
