Fast growing palm...

Hi All,

If, like me, Colin Campbells recent GA segment on palms left you gobsmacked, you may have gone on a search for the palm with the incredible growth rate (an inch per hour in the growing season) featured in the segment. Pigafetta Filaris (aka the Wanga palm) isnt a name I recognised, and reading the Palm and Cycad Society's summary of the species made me realise why its not likely to appear at your local nursery anytime soon. Nature is a cruel mistress :)

Cheers,

Artie

RE: Fast growing palm...

An inch per hour cant be believed- maybe for a Bamboo but not a Pigafetta. Yes they are terribly spikey, people have them in nensw gardens and are very cold sensitive when young. They apparently hate being grown in the shade and need sun to establish.
