monstera deliciosa leaf mottling

Howdy, all

I am cross posting from the pests & diseases forum at the suggestion of another user.

We grow monstera deliciosa (split leaf philodendron) for commercial leaf production, and we are seeing a yellow mottling of the leaves which makes them unsaleable.

I am including a photo at

http://www.hawaiifoliage.com/monstera_mottled.jpg

This photo shows that there is also a surface irregularity or depression where the discoloration is present.

The farm is in East Hawaii, where we get 130" avg annual rainfall.

Will be most grateful for any comments.

Aloha
Mike Clark

RE: monstera deliciosa leaf mottling

If those were nice round yellow spots with a a darker centre it would be easy, but this looks more like a humidity/water and/or Ca problem. If your humidity is too high (unusually high rainfall maybe?) or if leaves remain wet for too long, it may cause such problems which can then be traced to Ca deficiency. However, the best guess is you local State Agriculture Extension Office, since it is very difficult to suggest a cause for your problems from the other side of the globe.
