Planning an ethnobotanical trip up North...

Hi Tropical plant buffs. My partner and I run a small spice business from home (Adelaide) and are planning a trip to the Daintree region FNQ later this year. We grow many mediterranean herbs and spices but are particularly interested to see tropical herb and spice species, i.e. pepper, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, etc. We are having trouble finding out if anyone grows these kinds of things and would prefer to arm ourselves with as much knowledge as possible before we head up there. Can anyone suggest who might be able to help us in our quest?

Dear Jamus and partner,

Suggest that you take in some of the local markets while here, where growers carrying a range of plants - herbs, spices come to. Unfortunately don't have nursery contacts for same. From experience, great country markets - Mareeba markets, second Saturday of month and Yungaburra, fourth Saturday of month have growers/sellers of same. If interested, happy to arrange visit to a couple of private gardens around Kuranda where various herbs/spices grown as part of ornamental garden displays and also forward Food Trail brochure giving listings of all other markets in TNQ and where to taste various tropical yummies!
