Subtropical Gardener Magazine

Hi All,

You may remember a post of mine recently where I fantasised about a 'Tropical Gardener' magazine. It seems that my dream may have been realized.

One of the weekend papers carried a note re a new 'Subtropical Gardening' magazine which will soon become available in newsagents in Qld, NT and 'parts of NSW' (presumably Coffs north). I have to wonder if they are understimating the demand for such a magazine in locations much further south, but thats showbiz :)

The article did give a URL for the website (the first edition wont be available through newsagents, so you need to go to the website).

'OK, whats the URL ?', I hear you say in unison :)

I sheepishly have to admit that I cant remember where I saw this priceless piece of information - it was either the (Brisbane) Saturday Courier-Mail or the Sunday Mail, and I dont have either with me right now. I cant find any reference to it on Google - does anyone have either paper in front of them ? Saturday's CM had a gardening liftout, and I think thats where I saw it.

Anyway, I eagerly look forward to the arrival of a mag which deals with the plants *we* lust after, instead of trying to recreate the countryside of southern Europe.

The new magazine subTropical Gardening covers an area from Sydney through Qld and across to Darwin. The magazine launch was in Nambour and the first edition will be available again at Brisbane's Garden and Flower Show, 23rd to 25th September.
For any Sydneysiders reading this, the magazine will be available at Gardening Australia Festival 25th - 28th August. There is a Sydney writer for the magazine. If this is too long to wait, then visit the website.

Thanks for the clarification Helen : Sydney north sounds like an excellent range. I am about to dash out and mail off my subscription - lets hope I dont live to regret my investment :)

Looked at the website and couldn't help noticing the flower of a Kigelia(Ithink) tree (sausage tree) with a most unusual colour (not the normal maroon shade) does anyone know if this is a new variety or am I just "barking up the wrong tree" The editor (Paul Plant) writes for the Saturday Courier Mail HOME supplement in Brisbane and has a website at www.plant.id.au for those who want to check it out.
