Hi, in May I had the chance to spend 10 days in Costarica: I saw some very beautifull epiphytes: I am trying to find Anthurium salvinii.
I brought back some seeds of Crescenta alata( the fruit is used to make maraccas: some small plantelets have already emerged: I will have a few to exchange if anyone is interested.

| There are a couple of big old plants in the Arc glasshouse in the Sydney Botanic Gardens and my recollection is that they set lots of fruit. I think they have a different species name on their tags, but to me they look just like the A. salvinii plants I too saw in Costa Rica, eg in the Lankester Gardens. It's also pictured in a nice little book I bought there: Hammel, Barry; Plantas ornamentales nativas de Costa Rica (INBIO 2000). Afraid I don't know whether the Sydney Gardens would release any of the seeds from these. |

Thanks Tony, I bought the same book in San Jose. I am just starting to collect Anthuriums and these huge salvinii were so impressive. Living on a small acreage I have different environments that allow me to also create small ecosystems. Watering is a bit of a challenge but a combination of pumps: one from the creek that is good for 10 months of the year( then I need to use a bore as the local wildlife needs the water from the creek as it recedes to a large puddle). Our bore supplies the rest with a complex manifold of gate valves for different parts of the gardens. Mike |
