Does anyone know the name of this plant I have growing in my garden in Cairns? I am suprised that I have not seen this plant before given it's spectacular long-lasting flowers and impressive leaves.

Find the images here:

Darren,

try

Gloxinia perennis (L.) Fritsch

Syn Martynia perennis L. Gloxinia maculata L’Her. Gloxinia pallidiflora Hook.

Gesneriaceae

Perennial, terrestrial rhizomatous herb generally 30-50cm tall from Colombia, Peru & Brazil

Found mainly in older gardens, rarely if ever stocked by the nursery trade

Forms small clumps but not considered invasive, prefers moist humus rich well drained soil in filtered sun to semi-shade

Not to be confused with the Florists’ Gloxinia (Sinningia speciosa) another Gesneriad

Cheers from Kris
