Transplanting Agave Attenuata

I have just been given 2 very large Agave attenuatas. They have been dug and placed in pots for transport.

They each have a 100mm thick "trunk" about 450 mm long.

Can they be planted deeper than previously without harm? That is, down to the base of the leaves ?

They seem to readily form roots from the trunk, which is encouraging.

RE: Transplanting Agave Attenuata

Hi Chris, I have planted them to a depth of 10cm without harm. You might like to try cutting the stem a bit shorter and leaving it to heal for a week or so and then plant it. If you find any nuts in or around the roots they are seeds and can be planted pointy side up. Mine were a gift too, and they have thrived on abuse and neglect!
