This week someone recommended Carphalea kirondron as a most beautiful shrub to grow here in SE Qld. I had never heard of it but did a web search and although I found a few hits they were all overseas sites. Does anyone know whether this plant is available here? It is a native of Madagascar.

Carphalea Kirondron ixora like shrub to 1.5m is certainly around just a bit difficult to find (not expensive just elusive). I have bought some a while ago (not for myself) and for the life of me cannot remember where from but it was up the north coast somewhere, a nursery possibly called sylvania park or such like. I have seem them on the odd occasion at markets like yandina but have not been there for a while. You could try the Palm place also at Nambour/Yandia way.
cheers
Steve

Thanks, I will try around there. Have you seen it yourself, is it worth looking for?

i know its a bit of a late reply since your message was posted in may. A Carphalea in full bloom is utterly beautiful. There are a few impressive specimens around here (north qld). Very striking, and something different to the usual old ixora. Don't know if they will perform just as well in Brisbane though? don't see why not....
