We would like to invite lovers of tropical gardens to visit Lyons Tropical Retreat, open through the Australia Open Garden Scheme (Admission $5.00)

14th & 15th May 2005
10 Harris Close
BELLBOWRIE QLD 4070

Wayne & Margaret Lyons - Phone: 3202 8454

The Garden has been featured in the Courier Mail, Sunday Mail and on Briz31 and Channel Nine’s Saturday Afternoon.

Our tropical garden features an abundance of sun tolerant, shade and semi shade plants and an extensive collection of anthuriums, alocasias, bromeliads, calatheas, cordylines, heliconias, gingers, philodendrons and many other exotic species. Boardwalks lead into garden areas with dense plantings at edges over ponds with streams and waterfalls.

The front garden is full of bromeliads and other tropical plants that will tolerate the full sun conditions of Brisbane’s western suburbs with minimal shade.

An extensive collection of Cordylines are also featured.

Harmony and tranquillity plays an important part with numerous water features and seating areas established throughout the garden.

With a cane toad proof perimeter, the garden provides a safe home to seven species of frogs.

Many tropical plants will be available for sale including new release cordylines.

This is a garden that tropical plant enthusiasts should not miss.

Sounds great - its a shame that Bellbowrie is somewhat off the public transport corridor in Brissie's West. I do own a car, but I'll be relying on public transport to get around while I'm in Brissie next week - last time I hired a car it cost me an arm and a leg :)

My own woes aside, I hope others make the effort - I particularly like the idea of 'cane-toad proof' fencing : my next garden is next to a large aviary, and I suspect that I'll have every conceivable rodent, serpent and toad making a home in the understorey in an effort to be close to the 'action'.

Regarding Public Transport - Take the BCC 440 from the City to Bellbowrie (Pioneer West Stop) Our Garden at 10 Harris Close Bellbowrie is with 50 metres from the Bus Stop.

I read an article about your garden in the Sunday Mail sometime ago. I cut it out and put it on my fridge so I would not forget. I will be there.
