we decided to completely renovate our backyard last spring and laid buffalo for ease of maintenance. we have been mowing it lower with good results and give a monthly hose on with seasol mixed with powerfeed. if any one can give advice on how to prep for winter would be great. would also like to know any other tips for buffalo including weedicides that won't hurt the lawn would be greatly appreciated

I would suggest not mowing to low,and you will have less weed problems.Yates and Searles both have a selective herbicide available that can be used on soft leaf buffalo turf.
As far as nutrition goes, the Seasol/Powerfeed application is good ,but not time or cost effective ,try using a product such as Scotts lawn builder at the beginning of Spring,Summer and Autumn, watered in well. This will give a slower application of nutrients and the result will be a thick lush lawn.
Good luck.

I agree it can be time consuming but what a great way to spend an evening. We did fertilise without much result, hence the seasol mix. however got a ph kit a few days ago, found the soil that came with the turf is ph 5. It was also hard clay whereas our soil is more sand. Bit of hard yakka, dash of gypsum, a good dose of lime and a few days of rain it looks like I might have found the answer. thanks for the help it looks like it might be time to try the lawn builder.
