Any idea what this is?

There is a similar plant, flowering in a similar pattern. The only difference is that the flowers are orange instead of red and slightly larger. Anyone knows what it is exactly? Is it a form of bromeliad?

I want the plant with orange flowers identified the most.

Well your red one is a Heliconia , maybe H stricta? But I am no way an expert on Heliconia.

I suggest you might post this in the US Tropical forum of Gardenweb, might get a better ID there.

Hope that helps

Heliconia. Ah, it rings a bell. (hang on, let me check.)
I've just checked it on Wiki. Bingo! You have hit the spot. It IS Heliconia! Thanks Alison. Many many thanks.

Now I can positively identify that it was a Strelitzia (identified on Wiki just then with your help) in our Sydney backyard. Thanks again Alison.

No. Strelitzia is a bird of paradise.
Your little gem is Heliconia Stricta Huber.
I have about 50 varieties of heliconia at my botanical garden.

I wouldn't take 70% of the "facts" listed on wikipedia as truth. ANYONE can submit and edit things on wikipedia. Photos are the worst.
