well i think the subject says it all, I would like to plant curcumas, zingibers, elatiors etc next to our shed (best place for afternoon shade.)

However we have sewerage pipes directly underneath and electricity cables in the vicinty of the proposed garden.

Anyones previous experience would be much appreciated

Ree

You will have no problems at all with them as they are herbaceous and very shallow rooted. The roots are totally non destructive and will only enter pipes if they are already broken.

The only Ginger I would not plant is Alpinia. Wont affect your pipes but is a cow of a job if you have to dig out at a later date.

Do it Ree - these are some of the best behaved plants in my garden.

Good luck,

Thanks folks, I'm new to gingers and was really surprised to see how quickly the root system developed during spring.

They are sarting to multiply so it won't be long and i'll have a lovely, lush ginger collection.

You just need one good wet season for them to go beserk in the north qld. Once they are away, you can't stop them. I love them all.

Although, make sure you know where you plant curcuma as they will go dormant in the dry season - otherwise you might end up digging them up accidently.

Regards, Ari :)
