| just got a small pot containing a Morinda citrifolia - -does anyone grow it?
From what I can read on google it is a failry common plant near or in mangroves and along shore lines, also a "bush" food.
Is the fruit as bad as some people claim on google (smells like vomit was one comment)
Do you only use the juice or can other parts of the plant be used -
And how fast does it grow?? |

It grows very fast, the fruit smell absolutely terrible when fully ripe. They grow in littoral beach forests and sometimes can be found a little inland along rivers in monsoonal rainforests. They can be grown easily by drying the fruit and crumbling it up and spreading them across the top of the potting media- they can easily dampen off as seedlings so try and disperse the seeds from one another. The fruit can be eaten green or ripe and also the leaves can be eaten- but they taste terrible too!! From what I have tasted the best fruit is when they are half ripe and certainly I cant eat one when its fully ripe- IT DOES MAKE YOU WANT TO THROW UP!!! I have these planted in NE NSW but they do much better north of Bundaberg. They hate the cold. Yes juices are the best way to get this healthy produce into your body without being sick first! | I live just south of Bundaberg, bought a plant a year ago from Daleys fruit and it has fruit on it allready.I will pick one tomorrow as one of the fruit has some yellow colour. I bought it for its health properties as a bottle of juice cost $60 and the plant only $13. |

| You have an amazing plant. Yes, the fruit smells awkward in polite company - a bit like poo poo, not vomit, but it is good to eat - tastes like curry. The fruit look like small boiled potatoes and are ripe when they are very soft. My grandmother used to love them. The leaves are used in PNG for asthma, and the roots are boiled for a traditional natural dye giving a beautiful deep yellow colour. |
