| To those who do not live in Brisbane and are making a special trip to see the Hundscheidt garden in Sunnybank.
Judy and I will be going on the Saturday morning. Anyone who is down or up to Brisbane to visit this Garden are invited to look through our property either Sat afternoon or Sunday. Just remember it will NOT be in Open Garden condition, it will just be the usually everyday garden with leaves on the pathways, ect and of course 'work in progress' (as usual). Hope you will not be too disapointed after seeing the Hundscheidt garden. Ian |

| I would love to see both the gardens but we never go to the big smoke anymore. I'll just have to be satisfied with the photos - not the same though. |

| A very generous offer Ian, I'm sure your place always looks wonderful (works and all). Lucky you have the gazebo roof on or you might be calling for re-inforcements from the visitors! |

| Actually I was hoping for someone to turn up who could be my offsider on the cement mixer. Only joking, but I am serious about an open invite to any Gwebbers who would like to visit that weekend. We have gone without rain for six weeks and today while at work in Cleveland it has bucketed down, just hope that Birkdale received some as the Garden is so very, very parched. There is a fair bit of 'work in progress' and of course the Garden will not be up to 'Open Garden' standard but then again it would be interesting to see many of the 'Open Gardens' out of season. | Hi Ian, My garden will *never* be up to 'Open Garden' standard :) As I often tell friends who ask me why I've planted a given palm, philodendron or cordyline in a particular spot, the garden only has to satisfy one critic - me. Talking to one of the local Open Garden judges, it became apparent that they adopt a similar system to concours car judges - start at '100 points', then start deducting points for blemishes. I'm not saying that they disregard the overall impact of the garden (or car, or ..), but I'm not sure where the system leaves bush and rainforest gardens. Don Burke makes the point in 'Indigenous' that gardeners who chose this style of garden often faced the comment that 'it's just bush - thats not a garden'. To me, the ability to recreate a passable rendition of the rainforest (albeit a mix of native and exotic species) is the highest form of gardening. Good luck with the impromptu opening - its a splendid gesture. Cheers, Artie
