palm fronds open prematurely

Hi there, could anyone tell me why palm fronds start opening before they reach the correct height? It makes them look awful I have been fertilizing them, but that hasnt seemed to make a difference. We have also just bought a few more palms and noticed some of them are doing the same. But they were like that when we bought them. HELP
Thanks Jenny

RE: palm fronds open prematurely

I have found this to be happening here with my Christmas Palms (Adonidia merrillii). Usually only in spring but by summer the newer leaves are fully grown. Friends had the same problem with their Solitaire Palms (Pychosperma elegans), they did a PH test and found the soil to be very acidic and I think this has something to do with it.

Andrew.
