Brunonia

Hello, I am a member in the United States. I came across a plant, Brunonia, which said it would be unlikely to be available outside Australia.
Is this a popular plant there. I think its the coolest thing I have ever seen a picture of. Is there anyone who has seeds?
Can we exchange with each other? I have some nice seeds listed on my trade list, if anyone is interested.
Thanks,
Debbie

RE: Brunonia

It's quite rare in nurseries, only specialist grow it. I have a couple in pots, but they are very temperamental and rarely make it through more than a few years. I've never got them to grow from seed - the seed needs to be quite fresh I think. They are an impressive species and I do get excited when they flower (mine just finished a few weeks ago).

You could try Nindethana seeds, they sell the seed.

No-one from .au is likely to want to share your seeds because of the big hassle getting anything through customs. Thank you for your offer though.

As a runner up prize, perhaps you would like to track down lechenaultia biloba (hard to grow from seed, but trivial to grow from cuttings!). It has the same pure blue colour but should be quite easy to grow in your climate.

By the way, it's not customs who has the problem with seed (unless they are poppy seeds). It is AQIS (Quatantine). The reason for this is to stop diseases from entering the country and destroying our farming industry. It also stops more weeds being introduced.
