Is this hibiscus native?

Yesterday (Sat 22nd Dec) I saw these small Malvaceous plants with large carmine flowers growing in a disturbed mix of gravel, rocks and topsoil on the edge of a gravel road in the Herberton Range, to the west of Atherton, on the Atherton Tableland. Does anyone know if it is native?

Where they were growing - in eucalypt/casuarina woodland that gets burnt from time to time.

It certainly is. I have seen them growing in big groups and they are lovely. They flower after the rains start in summer.
Where in NQ are you Peter?
I am near Mareeba.
Cheers
Judy
