white hakia

I have collected more seed from the white hakia bush with a little more sucess this time.It is better to harvest seed in October/ November as last years seed pod is starting to open a little. This is the best time because the seed will blow away if the pod opens to much.Inside the pod are two slivers of black material which is the seed. Carefully remove, and plant in a 50/50 mixture of seed raising mix and sand, better still would be to place seed into soil taken from around the tree.Hope your conversion rate is better than mine.

Hi Roughie,
you could try a paper bag over the seed head, just before it opens and then go back and collect a week or 2 later and follow the correct procedure for your hakia seed and by all means a little local soil will always help start new plants. Please make sure you have permission/ permit to do so. Good luck. Peter r
