| I have just lashed out and bought Wendy and Bill Cooper's magnificent book "Fruits of the Australian Tropical Rainforest". An incredible piece of scholarship and a work of art. Essential for anyone interested in plants of the rainforest.
Check it out on:

| Thanks Grant - is there much coverage of the humble lillypilly ? Given that Eugenia, Acmena and Syzygium all bear edible fruit, I would hope that they get more than a passing mention. |

Looks to be a spectacular book. Need to save up though at $235. |

Artie, There are 59 Syzygium sp. described. I gave up counting after that. Grant |

| 59 ? If only they had kept going :) Seriously, that seems like excellent coverage, given that the usual entry for the lillipilly is limited to : 'Rainforest plant, white flowers and pink, edible berries in Summer. Likes full sun and well-drained friable soil. Excellent hedging plant'. If I read another tag like that, I may be ill :) Cheers, Artie |

This is certainly a great book, I have had about 10 minutes to scan through it since getting it a month ago. The keys however are possibly going to be difficult to utilise. Artie, they also include some of the name changes such as Acmena sp Cooper Creek now being Syzygium glenum etc. Do you have a collection of "lily pillies"?? Overall a book that will never be out-dated (apart from distribution and taxonomic revisions). Cheers from Kris Apparently there is a mistake within the text, can you find it!! lol. !!! |

| Hi Kris, I guess I do have a 'collection', but I'm sure it would be laughable in the eyes of 'serious' plant collectors: Waterhousea Floribunda : 'Weeping LillyPilly' Acmena Hemilampra : 'Blush Satinash' Acmena Ingens : 'Red Apple' Acmena Smithii 'Rheopytic Race' Syzygium Alatoramulum : 'Tinkling Satinash' Syzygium Angophoroides : 'Yarrabah Satinash' Syzygium Oleosum : 'Blue LP' Syzygium Leuhmanii : 'Riberry' Syzygium Wilsonii : 'Powderpuff LP' Syzygium Boonjee : ? Syzygium Australe : 'Aussie Southern', 'Aussie Copper', 'Express', 'Hinterland Gold', 'Compact Form' No Syz. Francisii - just too big for my block - but I think I've got most of the commonly available varieties. I wont mention the exotic Syzygiums and Eugenias, as some readers may be offended :) Cheers, Artie |

| I left out at least two more Syz. Australe cultivars - Northern Lights and Elite. Both excellent choices, I might add. Havent bothered with things like 'Blaze' or 'Tiny Trev' : I want shade, not a hedge for wombats :) |
