g'day john,

maybe it was the Spotted Gums – ‘E. maculata (Carymbia)’ they are shedding bark right now and take on that rose/pink/orange look.

happy new year

I reckon it will be Angophora costata which is found along the NSW and Queensland coast. In Southern Queensland it is found further inland. At this time of year it is shedding its old grey bark to reveal that spectacular Salmon pink to bright orange colour underneath.

Most likely, as Len says E maculata in Qld, if you take a closer look you can see the indents in the trunk - hence the name "spotted gum" when in full bark. Angophora spp. not as common in this region. Jane (PS Corimbya :) )

Sounds like the gum trees we have as street trees here in Epping - Angophora costata I think they are.
White flowers in summer? Trunks clear of branches for about 2m? Don't shed a great deal of bark or leaves? Tall and quite narrow dense canopy when compared with the spreading canaopies of other gum trees?
