| I have a rather mature tree - about 80 years old, that has begun oozing gelatinous reddish-brown sap near the base of the tree. Otherwise it appears quite healthy. This is planted as a street tree. I had another just like it, about 40 feet away, that had the same sort of sap oozing out of the tree about 3 feet above the ground. After about two years, the tree started losing leaves on some branches, and then, within a 3 week period it lost all its leaves and died. Anyone have any idea as to whether the sap and the demise were related? Or what the significance of the sap ooze is? I have been at this house for about 15 years, and never noticed such a problem until on the dead tree a couple years ago. |
