Using grey water

Here is a very useful link for people using grey water on their gardens.

It is a comparison of sodium content, pH and phosphorous levels etc (in average loads in both top and front loading washing machines) using wide range of washing detergents.

So it is a simple matter of identifying the washing detergent with the least amount of sodium and phosphorous etc, from the graphs.

Follow the 'laundry' link.

Greg - The link above makes for some good reading when you actually compare the different brands together in a graph. I note that some of the lower price brands are worse than the bigger brands. The laundry powder we use is on the lower end of the scale and I feel that the rinse water is still suitable for natives, although not over the foliage.

Do you use grey water on your garden?

RE: Using grey water

With the Earth brand detergent you only use a very small cap full in a large volume of water and is among the detergents with the lowest levels of sodium etc.

So I feel confident that washing water sprayed on to the foliage of my native plants will not effect them. But time will tell.

Will post another message if a notice any effects on the plants.
