RE: a native plum?

As another poster has already pointed out in the other thread, the plant in question is Eugenia Brasiliensis, the Brazil Cherry. Your neighbour, like many of us, has probably become confused by the naturalisation of some species over time - that said, I'm not aware that this is a garden refugee in too many parts of the country.

I'm attaching a link to a close-up of the fruit of Davidson's Plum, a true native, although I suspect that fans of the exotic plum may not find this quite as sweet a dish :)
