I've heard that I should cut off all of the dead flowers on my callistemon. Is this good advice?

Josh

I asked that question as well a little while ago. In general people said to deadhead/lightly prune if the bush was leggy and/or you wanted to keep it under control heightwise. If those 2 factors weren't a concern then not to worry about it.

I actually did one and left the other two to see the difference. A couple of months down the track the lightly pruned one looks a lot better than the others (it has filled out nicely and looks exceptionally 'lush') so I intend to do the other 2 over the next couple of weeks.

Just my experience of course!

regards
Reilly

Only going on advice from my mother - a long time gardener. She has grown callistemons in WA, which were stunning.
Mum always tells me to cut just below the flower.

And when they get too leggy prune them more they will thank you for that.
By giving you heaps more flowers, and thicken up as well, dont be afraid to prune any plant.
Cheers..MM.
