Tips for planting old bloodwood seed

Posted by richtrav (My Page) on

I have a few seed of Eucalyptus (Corymbia) polycarpa which is several years old and looks a little dried out. Is there anything I can do to it to increase the odds of getting at least a couple to germinate?

Your odds will be greatly increased if you "think moist" and don't let your sowing mix dry out, especially this time of year.

Best of luck.

g'day richtrav,

do some scarifying i think will help some?

try a couple ways ie.,.

pour boiling wate over them and let them soak for 24 hours.

let them soak until the seeds swell.

try pregerminating by keeping the seeds in some coir material (don't recommend peat moss).

guess the seeds are very tiny? another method of scarifying is to disturb the outer shell of the seed by rubbing on emery paper or using a blade cutter to shave some off one side of the sead, the need is to get moisture inside the seed.

be patient it may take up to 2 years or so for the seeds to germinate.
