Bottle brush trunk is hollow

In my new garden one of the bottle brushes (I think!) seems to be a bit dodgy. It’s been lopped a while back, the new growth is tall and not to strong as branches often come down in gusty wind. As well the base of the trunk is 'u' shaped (it looks like its been eaten out) instead of being roundish.
what would you do?
Chop it down start again and give more light to the mandarin and lemon tree it part shades? Leave it?

That hollow bit at the bottom appears to be where a branch (fork) has been ripped away at some stage.

If it were mine, I'd probably be inclined to lop it back down close to where it was pruned last time, or lower and keep it pruned each year to encourage a good bushy habit.

take it out and put in a new plant. It's not very healthy, has a poor shape and isn't a very interesting tree. Plant an aniseed tree or something!
