Sticky situation

While out with my camera, I came across this native plant with sticky/frothy nodules up to the size of a pea on its tips. Does anyone know the cause - Insects perhaps?

I'll get this checked out when next at the Botanic Gardens, save having it float around the forum any longer.

RE: Sticky situation

The sticky frothy substance in the photo has been identified as being made by a Spittle bug, (Philagra parva)

Something to remember for the future, perhaps.
