| hi everyone, I just had a really interesting visitor to my garden, I tried to take some pics through the window so I didnt scare it off, but the pics were no good and it just looks like a white blob. :( but I think it was one of these (see link). Ive seen these stork-ish looking things flying over in the past, how weird to see one wandering around in my little backyard though!

hehe, we regularly have flocks of a hundred or more of these (well, straw-necked ibises, which I think are the same) in the field up the road. The farms hate them :)

Yes we have lots around where I live also. O boy do they like to rip your garden up its nothing to see hubby in the middle of having breakfast when all of a sudden up he jumps races out the back grabs the yard broom and chases the jolly ibis's off our block quite funny really no they are not welcome here I am sorry to say, them and crows do too much damage...MM.

I was really excited because this was the first one I'd seen and I normally dont get anything this big in my garden. nathan, that must be quite a sight to see so many, Im glad there was only one of them here though, it's about all I have room for! lol mm, I bet these things could do some damage, the beak on this thing was just amazing. I know what you mean about the crows and Im not that keen on them. we had quite a group hanging around but they seem to be gone lately, so Im not sure if the magpies moved them along because they were nesting, but Im not missing them :)

I'm afraid I have to concur with the other posters, tg - the Ibis is widely regarded as being akin to pigeons (aka 'rat with wings') in many parts of Queensland - their propensity for scavenging around outside tables in open-air eating areas, then depositing the 'aftermath' in close proximity hasnt endeared them to anyone. Arguably, like pigeons, our refuse has swelled their numbers and made them a 'pest' in our eyes, but I think a cull is in order in many parts of Brissie ....

They seem to be in plague proportions around dumps.
