 o
natives for hedge, 'cowresistant'

Hello,
I need to make a hedge to shelter my fruit trees and I was thinking about using natives like lilly-pillies. The hedge will be in easy reach for my three cows though and I am afraid they might eat them. Does anybody know if cow's eat lilly-pillies, or what other plants native to Queensland I could use?
Thanx Eric

Yes, the cows will eat your lilly pillies. The only plant I have not seen eaten by a cow is lavender, but this won't do for your hedge. I recommend a fence, or you could try some sort of Pine.

For a picture of cow-pruned Maytenus bilocularis, see my blogsite - www.toowoombaplants2008.blogspot.com
It's a very attractive hedge plant, but your cows might keep it too low to shelter your fruit trees!
