Banksia coccinea

| I garden on a 1 acre property at Terranora, NSW, about 5 ks west of Tweeds Heads with a large area set aside for natives. Two years ago I stuck in my second B. coccinea (B.coccinea 'Wait's Flame') and assuming it would die like the first one I just left it alone. So far it is thriving and the shock of my gardening life! after a winter of good rainfall and a dry summer it has put on its first flower. Also thriving away are Banksia occindentalis (no flower yet), various eremophylias, Darwinnea citriodoria, and others. My soil type is fine to clayey, well drained red volcanic and aspect is a sloping north facing bank subject to nor-easterly winds and the hot western sun. I'll post a pic of the B. coccinea if I can work out how to. PS Maybe someone can tell me? |
