| I'm looking to plant some long-lasting, disease resistant kangaroo paw varieties in sandy loam in the illawarra (humid summers). Could you please share with me your tried and true recommendations for the best of the myriad varieties available- tall, short or inbetween. |

The one that is most reliable in humid climates is Anigozanthos flavidus. The hybrids that do well usually include this in their parentage. A very rough guide is to avoid those with grey / hairy leaves. Many of the new hybrids and cultivars seem to be released with glossy tags but no testing of their suitability IMHO. Dan |

| I know my climate is a bit cooler than yours, but it can get quite humid here in summer. I've had quite a lot of success with the 'Bush Gems' variety, 'Bush Gold'. I bought 2 plants 3 years ago, divided them last year, and they are about to start flowering again for their 4th year. 'Bush Gold' is a sturdy plant growing to about 70cm, with bright gold flowers that last for a long time. It's often available at Bunnings. |
