Substitute for Italian Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens)

It is always better to grow natives than foreign. And this brings me to the question of substituting Italian (or Mediterranean) Cypress with native Callistris (Cypress Pine). But, there are so many species of Callistris. Which one(s) closely resemble that of the Italian Cypress? Also I would like to know which cypress pine withstands heat and drought better than the rest. All recommendations are great help to me. Thank you so much.

It will depend very much on where you live...

There are lots of good ones, and they are probably all good at heat and drought. As Jim says, if you'd let us know which part of Australia you live in, it would be easier to comment. Australia is a very big place, containing lots of very different growing conditions!
