Hi,

'Central Qld' is a big area, but I can make the following observation: you need to keep any prostrate species off the ground, particularly Proteacea. Sounds simple enough, but how many of us mulch under groundcovers ? Its not too bad once they get going, but hot or wet soil directly under the foliage will hurt young prostrate Grevillea, and I assume that the same would hold true for Banksia. I tend to stick with the tougher varieties - the birds really dont know the difference - and the best groundcovers have been plants like Eremophila and Goodenia. You mileage may vary.

Cheers

Artie
